Jack the Songman Live (Sept 19th)
ABOUT JACK THE SONGMAN
Jack Carmichael, 24, has been making music in Chapel Hill since 2010. His musical resume is eclectic; in addition to directing the award-winning a cappella group, the UNC Achordants, Jack has sung and played piano, bass, and saxophone for various jazz bands, worship teams, garage bands, choirs, and glee clubs.
Like everyone else, Jack found himself stuck at home in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. With all of his newfound time alone, he decided to sit down at his keyboard a few times a week and see what happens. Soon, he’d built up a large enough repertoire of original songs to call himself a singer-songwriter. Armed with a bag of new tunes, Jack recruited drummer Eddie Burgard and bassist Antoine “Twan” Sieredzki to help develop his new musical persona he calls “Jack The Songman.”
Jack has spent the past year playing shows at venues all around the Triangle, as well as in livestreamed virtual concerts. He plans to keep safely performing live gigs as much as he can throughout 2021. Jack released his debut single, “Still On My Mind”, in May of 2021, with more music on the way this fall.
Jack The Songman writes music with a funky, fresh-but-retro, classic pop sound that feels familiar, but sincere. At the heart of every Songman song, you’ll find honest and straightforward lyrics about love and friendship. There’s something simple and beautiful about a good love song, and Jack has set out to capture just that. In a musical landscape that too often feels cynical and disingenuous, Jack The Songman is a refreshing new act determined to show you a good time straight from the heart.
